Dermal Laboratories, as its name suggests, was established to focus on research, development and marketing of dermatological products, primarily intended for doctors' prescription.

When the company was formed in 1963, many of the dermatological presentations available at that time were clinically effective, but extremely unpleasant to use. This often led to in-patient treatment at hospital, because many patients would not maintain their course of treatment at home, or had difficulties in applying the medication correctly.

The company's expertise has been based on the formulation of pharmaceutical preparations to treat, or to be applied to, the skin, paying particular attention to therapeutic bioavailability and patient acceptability of the finished preparation.

Dermal Laboratories products are well known amongst dermatologists and widely prescribed for the treatment of a variety of skin disorders, such as psoriasis, eczema and warts, as well as other conditions which can be treated by applied medication.

As a result of its extensive dermatological heritage, all Dermal formulations have been designed to avoid or minimise the inclusion of known potential sensitisers. Dermal was one of the first companies to pioneer the listing of all ingredients on its product literature, as an aid to prescribers and patients.
